PYHA offers three hockey programs: our traditional house hockey program (8U - 18U teams), a Learn to Play program, and a Girls Development program.
Learn To Play (LTP) is for youth (ages 4 to 10) that are just starting hockey or have previously played but are not yet ready for competitive team play. LTP is intended to introduce all of the necessary individual skills for playing hockey, with an emphasis on fun and skill development. This program focuses on the ABC’S of hockey (agility, balance, coordination, and skating). There are no games for LTP, but there may be informal scrimmages during some practices. LTP is a prerequisite that must be completed prior to joining a Youth House 8U or 10U team.
Girls Development Program (GDP) is for girls that want to learn hockey and develop their hockey skills alongside other girls. GDP is intended to introduce and develop all of the necessary individual skills for playing hockey. There are no games for GDP, but there may be informal scrimmages during some practices.
House hockey offers a full season of instructional recreational hockey. We have five age groups for youth hockey: 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U, and 18U. These breakdowns are determined by birth year. Our 8U program is geared to be more in-house and require minimal travel. Our 10U program includes a mix of in-house and home/away games against other regional teams. 12U, 14U, and 18U consist of home/away games and have more out-of-town travel than our younger age groups. Each age group may have additional tournaments at an extra cost. Tournaments are at the coach’s discretion and are not guaranteed.
One year of hockey experience through Learn to Play, Girls Development, or with another association, are a prerequisite to joining a Youth House team.
